Nickel Boron

Nickel boron is manufactured by the carbothermic reduction of boric acid together with high purity nickel using single phase arc furnace technology, then crushed and ground to specific size requirements.

The requirements for low carbon can be met by the production of two special grades of NiB, with the process carefully controlled to reduce the residual levels of carbon.

Nickel boron is used for applications in the following industries:

  • - Hardfacing industry - production of abrasion and wear resistant alloys containing up to 4% boron in an atomised form for use in thermal spray coatings. Also used in pastes and castings.
  • - Superalloy industry - improves the creep resistance and hot workability in nickel based and cobalt based superalloys.
